Positions We Hire For

We periodically hire guides in a variety of outdoor disciplines, including:

• Canoe & Kayak Guides
• Backcountry Camping Guides
• Fishing Guides (Fly & Conventional)
• Hiking & Backpacking Guides
• Hunting Guides
• Snowshoe & Winter Recreation Guides
• Outdoor Skills Instructors

Many of our guides specialize in multiple activities throughout the year, allowing them to work across all four seasons.

Guide Qualifications

Ideal applicants should possess:

• A genuine passion for the outdoors and conservation.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Experience camping, paddling, hiking, hunting, fishing, or leading outdoor groups.
• Good judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent physical condition appropriate for remote backcountry travel.
• A willingness to continue learning and improving.

Current certifications such as First Aid, CPR/AED, Wilderness First Aid (WFA), Wilderness First Responder (WFR), boating credentials, or other relevant outdoor certifications are always a plus.

New York State Guide Licensing

Most guiding positions require a current New York State Outdoor Guide License.

If you are already licensed, that's excellent.

If you're not licensed yet but are serious about becoming a guide, don't let that stop you from reaching out. We are happy to answer questions about the licensing process and help point prospective guides toward the resources they'll need to earn their license.

Guide-in-Training Program

Not everyone begins their career with years of professional guiding experience—and that's perfectly okay.

Our new Guide-in-Training Program is designed for motivated individuals who have outdoor experience but want to learn how to become professional guides.

Guide trainees may have opportunities to:

• Shadow experienced guides on real trips.
• Learn trip planning and logistics.
• Develop leadership and risk management skills.
• Practice client communication and outdoor instruction.
• Gain experience with navigation, campcraft, fishing techniques, canoe travel, and outdoor safety.
• Learn the day-to-day operations of a professional guide service.

The goal of the program is to prepare participants for obtaining their New York State Guide License and eventually leading trips of their own with Adirondack Mountain & Stream.

Our guides represent Adirondack Mountain & Stream everywhere they go, and we place a high value on professionalism, integrity, and treating every client with respect.

Seasonal & Flexible Work

Most positions are seasonal, with opportunities throughout the year depending on your skills and availability.

Some guides work only a handful of trips each month, while others guide regularly throughout multiple seasons. We're happy to work with teachers, college students, retirees, and individuals with flexible schedules.
