The Adirondack Park is a vast, six-million-acre wilderness in northern New York State, made up of expansive forests, rugged mountains, and remote backcountry. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife, but one of the most sought-after game species in the region is the whitetail deer. While the Adirondacks are not known for high deer densities, the big woods produce true trophy bucks every year for those willing to put in the time and effort.
Our deer season begins in October and typically runs until the second week of December, with November being the most productive time to pursue a mature Adirondack buck. Hunting here is a challenge unlike any other—big woods, vast terrain, and unpredictable weather make for some of the toughest yet most rewarding hunts in the Northeast.
At Adirondack Mountain & Stream, we specialize in backcountry deer hunts. Whether you prefer hunting with a rifle or muzzleloader, our experienced guides have the knowledge to increase your chances of success. We tailor each hunt to fit your style and preferences, ensuring an authentic Adirondack hunting experience.
We offer flexible options to accommodate different hunting styles:
Day Hunts – Hunt deep in the Adirondack wilderness while staying at one of our recommended bed and breakfasts or hotels.
Extended Backcountry Hunts – For those looking for a true wilderness experience, we offer pack-in hunts where we set up a tent camp deep in the woods, allowing for multiple days of hunting in remote terrain.
Whether you’re looking for a classic Adirondack day hunt or a multi-day backcountry adventure, we are here to make your hunt a memorable and rewarding experience. Your adventure, your hunt—our goal is to help you make the most of it.
Here at Adirondack Mountain and Stream we also offer guided small game hunting, this means you don’t have to be just a deer hunter to experience the Adirondacks hunting seasons. Within the park you will find an abundance of Snowshoe hare, grouse, woodcock, and varmints. Rabbit hunting has become extremely popular amongst our customers. All our hare hunting is done with our personally trained and owned beagles. We hunt all of our dogs with state of the art electronics, this makes keeping track of our hounds easier which means more time hunting. Our hare hunting trips take place during the middle of December into the middle of March.
Ruffed Grouse and woodcock hunting are also popular here in the park. With the fall colors around during this time of year it can be a very pleasant time to be in the woods. All of the upland game birds in the park are free range native birds making the hunting experience more rewarding if you’re lucky enough to get a good shot at one of those fast flying birds! Have your own bird dogs? Contact us and we would gladly help you set up a guided trip where you bring your own dogs. Our ruffed grouse hunting starts in late September and goes to the end of February.
If hunting coyote, fox or bobcats are your style or if you want to learn a thing or two about calling and hunting varmints, the park offers some challenging but rewarding varmint hunting. The majority of our varmint hunts take place from December to the end of March. The winters months are usually are most productive. So if you think you have the patience and persistence to hunt varmints in the Adirondacks, give us a call or email us and let us help you get your Adirondack hunting adventure started!
